What Can I Expect from Six Month Smiles?
1. Consultation – The first step is always a consultation. We’ll need to examine your teeth and decide whether this is the appropriate treatment option (we’ll only move forward with Six Month Smiles if your occlusion fits the treatment guidelines). This orthodontic method is appropriate for patients with gaps between front teeth, mild overbites, open bites, crowded or overlapping front teeth, asymmetry, or reverse smile lines. Don’t write yourself off as a non-candidate until your consult – Six Month Smiles has also been used in more dramatic cases. Once we’ve decided on this treatment, we’ll take x-rays and impressions of your teeth to use when creating your braces.
2. Bracket placement – After receiving your braces from the Six Month Smiles laboratory, we’ll place clear brackets and tooth-colored wires on your front teeth. These are bonded in place. A precise tray helps us check to ensure that your brackets are perfectly-seated for ideal results.
3. Treatment process – You’ll visit our office every 4-5 weeks for adjustments. We place new arch wires once a month to help your straightening move forward, with each appointment taking only 10-15 minutes. During treatment, clean your teeth and brackets carefully, and avoid sticky or hard foods that might dislodge your braces.
4. End of treatment – Once your straightening is complete, we will remove the brackets and wires. In order to maintain your results, you’ll need to wear retainers, although these are usually just worn at night.
